OpenAI recently launched Sora, an advanced AI model that generates realistic, creative videos from text descriptions. The technology is now built into ChatGPT, so users can create videos directly inside the platform by simply typing a prompt.
What is Sora?
Sora is OpenAI's text-to-video model. It generates short clips from text input, with output up to 1080p resolution and 20 seconds long. Users can pick aspect ratios (widescreen, vertical, or square), upload their own material to remix, and use a built-in storyboard tool that lets them specify inputs frame by frame.
Below is an example of a video generated by Sora:
The demo shows how detailed and lifelike the model can render motion from a simple text prompt. The prompt used here was: "On top of a giant flower in a bright, sunny garden, a bee and a bumblebee fight like boxers. They wear small boxing gloves on their front legs, bounce around each other, throw punches and dodge as if in a real ring. The flower sways under them with the movement. Comic, cartoon-like style with exaggerated animation. Bright colours, expressive insect faces, fun and energetic mood. The camera shakes lightly as in a boxing match."
Integration with ChatGPT
The Sora integration means users can now generate text and visual content inside the same interface. The combination opens up more dynamic, interactive ways to communicate and create. Access requires a ChatGPT Plus or Pro subscription. Plus users can generate up to 50 videos per month at 720p; Pro users get unlimited 1080p generations alongside extras like faster generation times and the ability to run several videos in parallel.
Now available in Europe
Sora has recently rolled out to users in Europe, including the Netherlands and Belgium. Users in these regions can now access the video tool through sora.com, provided they have a ChatGPT Plus or Pro subscription. The expansion lets European users explore Sora's capabilities for their own creative projects.
Use cases
The integration of Sora in ChatGPT opens up possibilities for individuals and companies alike. A few examples:
- Marketing and advertising: quickly produce promotional videos from text descriptions, making campaigns more efficient.
- Education: teachers can generate educational videos to explain complex concepts visually.
- Entertainment: writers and creators can produce short films or animations without needing deep video production expertise.
Sora's arrival inside ChatGPT is a meaningful step forward for AI-driven content creation. By blending text and video in one interface, OpenAI gives users a powerful tool to bring creative ideas to life, and with the European rollout, even more people can put it to work.
